Warehouse Learning Hub

Practical guides for warehouse managers, dealers, and installers.

Planning a Layout

Start with the building, not the rack. Clear height under sprinklers, column grid, dock placement, and lift truck reach set the outer limits of any layout. From there, pallet dimensions and weights determine beam length, beam capacity, and frame depth.

Safety and Compliance

New rack sold by NAWL is built to RMI/ANSI MH16.1. That means published capacity charts, permanent load plaques, and bolted uprights rather than welded. OSHA expects damaged uprights to be off-loaded and repaired or replaced, and expects load limits to be posted where operators can read them.

Installation Basics

Rack has to be plumb, anchored, and shimmed on a slab thick enough for the anchors specified on the drawings. Baseplate anchoring, row spacers, and flue spacing are all engineering items, not field decisions. Have a licensed structural engineer approve any final layout before installation.
